DEMOGRAPHICS

Lake Mary is located in Seminole County with the population at just over 14,000. The city sits at the center of Florida’s High-Tech Corridor and is becoming a much sought after location for young families and professionals as well as corporate office relocations and light manufacturing operations. The median age of residents is 38. The average household income is $77,000.

GOVERNMENT

Lake Mary is governed by a “Commission/City Manager" form of government. The responsibility of the City Manager is to implement and administer all ordinances and policies adopted by the City Commission.

HISTORY

Lake Mary’s beginnings can be traced back to the 19th century when two tiny settlements came together as a village. The city was named after the wife of a minister who settled on the north shore of the lake. The city was primarily a citrus-based agricultural community until the 1970’s when the Disney World development pushed north and Lake Mary began to see the beginning of two decades of tremendous growth not only residential but economical as well.

COMMUNITY INFORMATION

Lake Mary was ranked the 4th Best Place to Live in the U.S. by Money Magazine in 2007. The city is at the center of Florida’s High-Tech Corridor, which runs from Tampa through Seminole County and northeast to Daytona Beach and Melbourne. Cutting-edge companies in fields such as telecommunications, medical technology and microelectronics have set up shop in several huge business centers.

Lake Mary also has the Colonial Town Park as its town center. It is a 175 acre mixed use development that features shopping, residences and apartments in a village setting.

For those seeking an active lifestyle, Lake Mary has developed a great city wide parks and recreation system. The Community Center serves the social, cultural, recreational and education needs of its citizens. The Sports Complex provides playing fields for almost every sport imaginable. There are parks with large picnic areas, trails, playgrounds and even venues for entertainment. For the water enthusiast, water recreation abounds! Minutes away are rivers and lakes and the beaches are close enough too! Four of Florida’s top-rates country clubs and championship golf courses are located nearby.
